What mirror works covers and what it costs
Mirror works in Dubai covers supplying, fabricating and installing mirrors: bathroom and vanity mirrors with integrated LED and demisting, full-height gym and dance mirror walls, antique, bronze and grey mirror used as a decorative panel finish, wardrobe and dressing room mirrors, and mirrored ceilings and splashbacks. Mirror does something in a Dubai apartment that no other material does: it doubles the apparent size of a room and doubles whatever daylight reaches it. In a compact bathroom or a narrow hallway it is the highest-impact and cheapest change available.
The thing that ruins it is distortion. A large mirror fixed to a wall that is not flat will bow, and a bowed mirror gives you a funhouse reflection that people notice immediately without being able to say why. So the wall is checked and, where necessary, battened and shimmed flat before anything goes up. On a gym wall, where mirrors run several metres, this matters enormously.
The second thing is the backing. A mirror over a basin, in a shower or on a gym wall should have a safety backing film, so if it breaks the fragments are held on the film rather than falling. It costs very little and it is the difference between a nuisance and an injury.

Mirror types and where they work
Mirror is one material with several quite different applications, and the specification changes completely between them.
Backlit and LED bathroom mirrors. Mirror with a sandblasted border or perimeter lit from behind, integrated demisting pads so the mirror stays clear after a shower, and touch or sensor switching. Made to the exact width between tiled returns rather than bought to the nearest standard size.
Vanity and framed mirrors. Polished, bevelled or framed edges, in timber, metal or plaster frames, wall-hung or leaning. A bevelled edge catches light and suits a traditional bathroom; a clean polished edge suits everything else.
Gym, dance and studio mirror walls. Full-height runs of safety-backed mirror, fixed to a battened and levelled substrate with the joints tight and aligned. Flatness is the entire craft here, and it comes from the substrate preparation.
Antique, bronze, grey and smoked mirror. Used as a wall finish rather than as a mirror — panels with a shadow gap, fluted or ribbed mirror, and distressed antique finishes behind a bar or a bed. Reflective without being literal, which is why it works in a living space. See wall panelling.

Mirrored ceilings, splashbacks and niches. Mirror used in small, deliberate doses — the back of a display niche, a splashback behind a bar, a recessed ceiling panel. High impact, low area, and usually the cheapest dramatic thing in a scheme.
Silvering, edges, fixing and demisting
Mirror for a bathroom should be silvered to a standard that resists humidity, or the coating oxidises from the edges inward and produces the black creeping fringe you see on old bathroom mirrors. Copper-free silvering with a protective paint back is what we use, and in a wet room it matters considerably.
Edges are either polished flat, bevelled at an angle, or hidden in a frame or a rebate. A polished edge is clean and modern; a bevel adds a refractive line that reads as traditional. Both must be done before delivery — like tempered glass, a finished mirror cannot be trimmed on site, so the measurement has to be right.
Fixing is where large mirrors fail. Mirror adhesive alone on a painted or tiled wall is not enough on anything substantial; we use a combination of a mirror-safe adhesive and mechanical support — a bottom channel, concealed clips or a French cleat on a backing board — so nothing relies solely on a bond to a surface that might itself let go.
Demisting pads are a heated film behind the mirror wired to the lighting circuit or a separate switch. They are cheap, they draw very little power, and in a Dubai bathroom where the air conditioning fights a hot shower they are the difference between a mirror you can use immediately and one you wipe every morning.

How a mirror job runs
Survey and wall check
We measure the opening in several places and check the wall for flatness and plumb with a straight edge or laser. A bow of more than a few millimetres over a large mirror will visibly distort the reflection, so it is corrected before fixing.
Specification
Mirror type, thickness, edge treatment, backing and any integrated lighting or demisting agreed. For antique and tinted mirror we provide samples, because the density of the distressing varies and photographs never represent it properly.
Fabrication
Cut to the measured size, edges polished or bevelled, holes and notches machined for fixings and services, sandblasted borders applied for backlit mirrors, and LED and demisting assemblies fitted and tested before delivery.
Substrate preparation
Where required, the wall is battened and shimmed flat, a backing board fitted, and power brought to the correct position for a lit mirror. Fixings and channels are set before the mirror arrives.
Installation and commissioning
Mirror lifted in — large panels with suction handlers and enough people — bedded, mechanically supported and levelled, joints aligned on multi-panel runs, then lighting and demisting connected and tested.

Large single panels cost disproportionately more than the same area split into sections, because of handling, breakage risk and transport. Where a wall is over about 2.4 metres wide we usually advise a joined run with aligned edges instead.
Mirror in gyms, salons, retail and hospitality
Gym and studio mirror is the most demanding commercial mirror work, because it is large, continuous and judged constantly by people looking directly at it. Safety backing is essential in a space full of dropped weights, the substrate has to be dead flat over long runs, and the bottom edge needs a protective channel or a raised plinth so equipment cannot strike it.
Salons need mirror that flatters, which is a lighting question rather than a mirror one. Even, high colour-rendering light from both sides at face height is what a stylist and a client both need; a downlight above a mirror produces shadows under the eyes and makes everyone unhappy.
Retail and hospitality use mirror to enlarge and to dramatise: antique mirror behind a bar, mirrored columns, full-height fitting room mirrors slightly raked at the top so the reflection is flattering. All of it needs safety backing and robust fixing, because public spaces get knocked.

How much does a backlit bathroom mirror cost in Dubai?
AED 550 to 1,600 made to your exact size, including the LED, driver and a demisting pad. The price depends mainly on size and on whether the lighting is a perimeter sandblast, an edge glow or a full backlit panel.
How long does it take to make a mirror?
Five to ten working days from measurement for cut, polished and lit mirrors. Antique and specialist finishes can run to two weeks. Nothing can be trimmed on site afterwards, so the measurement stage is where the time is well spent.
Why does my bathroom mirror have black edges?
The silvering has oxidised, usually because moisture has reached the back through an unprotected edge. It cannot be repaired. A copper-free silvered mirror with a proper protective backing and a sealed edge detail is what prevents it recurring.
Can a mirror be cut to fit an alcove?
Yes, and that is normally how it is done. We measure the alcove at several heights — they are rarely parallel — and cut to the smallest dimension with a small tolerance, then finish the edges. Templates are used where the shape is irregular.
Do I need safety-backed mirror?
We recommend it everywhere and consider it essential above a basin, in a shower area, in a gym and anywhere children use the room. The film holds the fragments in place if the mirror breaks, which turns a serious hazard into an inconvenience.
What is demisting and is it worth it?
A thin heated pad behind the mirror that keeps the surface just above the dew point, so it does not fog after a shower. It costs AED 180 to 420 fitted and uses very little power. In a Dubai bathroom with strong air conditioning it is one of the best-value details available.
Can you fit mirror over tiles?
Yes, provided the tiles are sound and reasonably flat. We check for hollow tiles first, because fixing a heavy mirror to a tile that is only partly bonded transfers the load to the weakest point. Mechanical support is always used alongside adhesive.
How do I clean antique or bronze mirror?
With a soft cloth and a little glass cleaner sprayed onto the cloth, never onto the mirror, so liquid cannot run to the edges and reach the backing. The same applies to ordinary mirrors and it is the single habit that most extends their life.
