What vinyl wrapping covers and what it costs
Vinyl wrapping in Dubai means applying self-adhesive architectural film to an existing surface — kitchen cabinet doors, wardrobes, internal doors, counters, reception desks and office furniture — to change its colour, pattern or texture without replacing it. Expect AED 120 to 260 per square metre for flat surfaces and AED 200 to 420 for profiled or detailed work. Vinyl wrapping has a reputation problem in Dubai, and it is earned — by the version done badly. Film applied over greasy cabinet doors in a kitchen, with the edges trimmed by eye, will lift at the corners within months and look exactly as cheap as it was.
Done properly it is a different product entirely. Architectural film from a serious manufacturer is a dimensionally stable cast vinyl with a pressure-activated adhesive, rated for seven to ten years indoors, available in convincing wood grains, matt and gloss solids, concrete and metallic finishes, with real texture rather than a printed image of one.
The technique is what separates the two. Doors come off, hardware comes out, surfaces are degreased and abraded, edges are wrapped around and into the rebate rather than trimmed flush, and heat is used to conform the film into profiles. That work happens in a workshop, not in your kitchen with the film billowing in the air conditioning.

What is worth wrapping — and what is not
Vinyl is at its best on large, flat, rigid surfaces that are sound underneath. It is at its worst on anything that flexes, gets wet at the edges or is already failing.
Kitchen cabinet doors and panels. The single most common job. A dated oak or gloss white kitchen becomes matt anthracite, fluted oak or stone-effect in three to four days, with the carcasses left in place. The cost difference against a new kitchen is roughly one to five.
Wardrobes and fitted joinery. Bedroom wardrobe fronts, dressing room units and built-in storage. Large flat areas with straightforward edges — close to ideal for film, and a quick way to reset a room without demolition.
Internal doors and frames. Doors wrapped off the hinge in a matching or contrasting finish. Where the doors are sound but the colour is wrong, this is faster and cheaper than spraying and has no drying time.
Counters, reception desks and office furniture. Worktops in a stone-effect film, reception fronts rebranded in a corporate colour, desking refreshed across a whole floor over a weekend. Popular with tenants who cannot alter the landlord fit-out permanently.
Retail and commercial surfaces. Shopfronts, display units, column casings and wall panels wrapped for a seasonal change or a rebrand, then removed and replaced without any making good.
What we advise against. Wet-area edges such as around a sink cut-out, surfaces that already have swollen or delaminated board, anything that flexes, and heavily profiled Victorian-style doors where the film cannot conform without stretching the grain.
When wrapping is right and when painting is better
We offer both, and we have no interest in selling you the wrong one. Vinyl wrapping and spray refinishing solve the same problem — a sound unit with the wrong surface — in different ways, and the choice comes down to time, texture and edges.
Wrapping wins on speed and on texture. There is no drying time, so a kitchen is back in use the same week, and film gives you wood grain, concrete, brushed metal and textured matt finishes that paint simply cannot reproduce. It is also fully reversible, which matters enormously to tenants who have to hand back a leased space as they found it.
Spraying wins on longevity and on complex shapes. A two-pack lacquer bonds to the substrate permanently, handles profiled and moulded doors that film would stretch over, survives heat and moisture at edges better, and can be touched in or re-sprayed later. How a wrapping job runs
Survey and sample
We check the substrate — the film needs a sound, rigid, non-flexing surface — measure the areas, and leave physical film samples. A sample on the actual door under your own lighting settles the colour far better than a swatch book.
Removal and preparation
Doors and drawer fronts come off, hinges and handles are removed and labelled, then every surface is degreased, abraded and cleaned. In a kitchen this stage is most of the work, because cooking residue is invisible and defeats adhesive completely.
Workshop application
Film cut oversize, applied with a squeegee against a wet or dry line, heated to conform into profiles, and wrapped around the edges into the rebate so no cut edge sits where a hand or a cloth can catch it.
Fixed elements on site
Carcass ends, plinths, counters and anything that cannot be removed are wrapped in place, with the area masked and the air conditioning set so the film behaves. Cut lines are planned to fall at corners, not across faces.
Rehanging and finishing
Doors rehung, alignment and gaps reset, hardware refitted or replaced with new handles, and the whole run checked under raking light for bubbles or lifted edges. New handles are often what makes the job read as a new kitchen.

A kitchen is priced per project rather than per square metre because preparation time varies enormously with how much cooking residue there is. Deep-profiled doors and anything needing removal of failed old film sit at the top of the range.
Wrapping for offices, shops and hotels
For a commercial tenant in Dubai, the reversibility of film is the main attraction. A leased office can be rebranded in the company colours across reception, desking and meeting room fronts, and all of it comes off cleanly at lease end with no dilapidations claim. Repainting the landlord joinery does not offer that.
Speed is the second reason. A floor of desking or a retail interior can be wrapped over a weekend or a series of nights with no drying time and no solvent smell on Monday morning. Painting the same area means closing the space.
For hospitality, wrapping is used to refresh between refurbishment cycles: lift lobby panels, corridor doors, bar fronts and back-of-house furniture, keeping the property looking current without taking rooms out of service.

How much does it cost to wrap a kitchen in Dubai?
AED 3,500 to 6,500 for a standard apartment kitchen and AED 6,500 to 14,000 for a villa or island kitchen, including removal, preparation, wrapping and refitting. A replacement kitchen of the same size starts around AED 25,000.
How long does vinyl wrapping last?
Seven to ten years indoors with architectural-grade cast film, properly prepared. Poorly prepared surfaces or cheap calendared film will lift at the edges within a year, which is where the material has earned its mixed reputation.
How long does the work take?
Three to four days for a typical kitchen, one to two days for a set of wardrobes, and same-day for a few doors. There is no drying time, so the kitchen is usable as soon as the doors are back on.
Is wrapping better than spray painting?
Neither is better outright. Wrapping is faster, reversible and offers textures paint cannot, which suits tenants and anyone wanting wood grain or concrete effects. Spraying lasts longer, handles profiled doors better and can be touched in, which suits owners staying long term.
Can wrapped surfaces be cleaned normally?
Yes, with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Avoid abrasive pads, solvent cleaners and steam. The edges around sinks and hobs are the vulnerable points, so wipe standing water rather than letting it sit against a seam.
Will it peel in Dubai heat?
Indoors, no — interior temperatures are stable and the film is rated well above them. The real risks are poor preparation, kitchen grease under the film, and direct sun on a south-facing surface, where we would specify a UV-stable exterior-grade film instead.
Can the film be removed later?
Yes. It peels off with gentle heat, leaving the original surface intact. That is why it is the preferred option in leased premises where the fit-out has to be handed back unaltered.
Can you match a specific colour or a wood?
Very closely. Architectural film ranges run to several hundred finishes including convincing oak, walnut and stone effects with real embossed texture. Where an exact match matters we apply samples to a spare door so you see it in your own light.
